Several years ago I found out that my childhood friend Ben Pinkerton had stage 4 Colon Cancer, and little Lauren Cherry, then 3 years old, (Daughter of BHS classmates Steve and Marisa Cherry) was battling a brain tumor.
As I sat in Nashville reading on facebook the outpouring of love and support for Ben and Lauren from all over the country inspired me to come up with a call to action, a facebook post asking if anyone in our hometown of Blacksburg, VA would be interested in helping me put together a benefit concert to help raise money for Ben, Lauren and their families.
The response was a resounding yes! Thanks to Erin James Ling, Nicole Fitzwater Boyle, Lisa Wilkerson Dobbins, Tucker LaForce, Robin Ferraro, Liz Miller and many others who have volunteered the last 3 years, Cherry Pink Strong Cancer Benefit Concerts have taken place not only in Blacksburg but Raleigh, NC as well!
Unfortunately we lost our dear friend Ben last spring, but his memory will live on in all of us. And we'll continue to pay tribute to him and his amazing wife Karla and son Daniel with each Cherry Pink Strong Event we hold for years to come.
This July 16th, 2016 we'll be doing it again in Blacksburg at Custom Catering to support the Cherry, Pinkerton families once again as well as the family of another BHS class of 96er Sarah Olsen Rogers who is battling Cancer currently.
